Children not being able to read at grade level : reason and probable solution
Children
not being able to read at grade level is a very dynamic problem. However, if
you were asked to identify one important reason for this problem to persist,
what would that reason be? Can you offer a probable solution to the same? Limit

Yes,
It is also my personal observation during work with children. I feel reasons
for this problem in following cycle-
I
feel there is a huge misconception on meaning , nature and potential of language among layman, teachers and educators.
Language
is the ability that make human being different from other animal. We human all
are equipped to learn language, this is not that all have equal utilize their
ability but how one interplay of his language acquisition devices with one’s
surroundings. Language is all about thinking and expressing your thinking
weather with others or with yourself. These dialect and scripts just a tool to
easy our work. Our schooling system work bad rather than good in this context , one get less
opportunity to think and to express ,here is the root cause for language
learning problem. In our society where
child get less opportunity to play , to celebrate his/her day to day life
,festival also bound to certain customs ,he/she is trained to express in his/her
happiness or sadness etc. in a
particular way. In this circumstances innovation is lost and language become
older. While nature of language is to become young forever if it get freedom of
expression truly – to express joy, sadness, loneliness ,togetherness ….with
innovative ways.
Children
not being able to read at grade level is a very dynamic problem because of
children not being able to think at grade level ,because of children not being
able to speak or express at grade level. I feel strong co relation between
thinking/speaking and reading.
Second
point is our content knowledge and pedagogy to teach our children which is
again depend on our perspective about nature of language. We give just symbols that forms some words and
further they shape into a sentence but fail to relate with their real life
context, fail to give meaning these symbols, IF we teach our children with
traditional approaches. Then what is the solution? Solution is just give
healthy exposure where children use his/her cognition ,where he/she feel need
to speak, to listen, to discuss. We as a facilitator just to alive his quest
for learning. If children have question to find, imagination to fill canvasses
,he/she take interest in reading , then reading is not achieving grade, get
compensation, fulfil demand of his/her teachers or parents but for amuse
himself, for express himself ,for knowing
their world more meaningfully. Children should get such exposure in
their schools and home where they are free to choose their readings, it should
not be pre decided. Human being is such a complex nature that no one cannot
predict one’s nature or interests. We accept diversity in choices of our little
readers. Reading is just dynamic as our thoughts not for
reach level appropriate.
