Joy of teaching
Like all other living beings, man struggles
for existence. He wishes to lead his life in the light of his knowledge of
himself and the world. He gets pleasure and utmost satisfaction for matching
his desires. His rationales make any work is worth joyful for him. Although in
any profession he gets monetary supports yet joy lives in the heart of his
philosophy of life. It is impossible to live without a metaphysics. Man himself
and society together woven this net.
Teaching is a social process in which both
get joy and pleasure teacher and his pupil. There is a saying –“bread baked
without love is a bitter bread that feeds but half a man’s hunger,”-those who
cannot work with their hearts achieve but a hollow half- hearted success that
breeds bitterness all around. If you are a teacher who would rather be a businessman,
your instructions will meet but half the need for the knowledge of your
students.
A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell
where his influence stops.” No one can determine and draw a line during
this joyful learning journey i.e. teaching. The rewards of teaching are
innumerable. You have the opportunity to be amidst hundreds of young bubbling
lives. For many, their work is a means to an end but teaching is a vocation and
not a job. It gives a sense of service. Every teacher can experience the joy of
making a difference in young lives. While teachers spend time nurturing
children, they also find personal fulfillment doing something they truly love and
are passionate about.
All above said is true only when teacher is
autonomous. But unfortunately joy of teaching curbed by our system. We expect
from a school teacher that he maintain a logical distance from his pupils. It
is believed that it is necessary to create instructive atmosphere.We often see in many schools and college’s teacher has a separate
chair and desk with a distance from students. It is well taught in our teachers
training institutes. Blackboard mostly comes under the influence of teacher. The purpose of teacher’s training's in-services
or pre- services is how to make a lesson plan and effective ways to deliver it
to the students. In our classrooms asking questions from teachers is a rare
phenomenon. Teacher is supposed to encourage asking questions but the pattern
and nature of questions is already decided by teachers. Generally at the end of
his period teacher asked –“shall I repeat something?” “IS everything is clear
to you?” Etc. There
is no scope for new direction and possibilities .By chance if such out of box
questions comes, it is shrugged off smartly. It is decided outside school what
is to be taught? And how is to be? Teacher became a carrier of these social
feuds.
The ability of construct knowledge through
an interplay of rational principle and sensory output of human being make human
superiors to other living beings. Teaching is continuous learning, learning for
sharing. The single point motivation of teaching is to learn, hunger of
learning make you teacher and teacher gets joyful journey of his life.
